The Diocese of Hereford is the Church of England in Herefordshire, south Shropshire and some parishes in Worcestershire, Powys and Monmouthshire. Our worshipping community is made up of 13,300 people of all ages and backgrounds. Nearly 7,500 people attend a service each Sunday and 12,000 children attend one of our 78 schools and academies.
Our vision is to inspire each generation to follow Jesus Christ – our families, friends, neighbours, colleagues, the people we meet – so that lives and communities are changed and God’s kingdom grows here in Hereford Diocese, on earth, as in heaven.
Clergy form a central part in the life of the 400 churches across our Diocese. In 2020, we deployed some 80 stipendiary clergy and curates; supporting them in their ministry, training and continued development is a key priority for the Hereford Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF) and represents by far our largest financial commitment. We're responsible for training and paying these clergy, and contributing to their pension fund. We're grateful to every Parochial Church Council (PCC) that joins us in meeting these ministry costs through their regular Parish Offer contributions.
It costs over £115,000 per week to resource our Diocese, mainly funding our frontline parish clergy. We're completely reliant on generous donors to meet these costs, as we receive no money from the government, county or parish councils.
Could you consider a regular donation? It's particularly helpful if our supporters choose to contribute to the work of the Church on a regular basis, as this helps us to plan for the future.
The best way you can do this is via our Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) account. This allows you to make a donation monthly, quarterly, or annually, with the assurance of the Direct Debit guarantee. There’s an option for you to increase your gift each year to keep pace with the rising cost of living, with the peace of mind that you can adjust your donation at any time if your circumstances change.
Thank you very much for your generous support.
