Welcome to our PGS site and thank you for your interest in this 12th and 13th century building. A Five Parishes church, St Mary the Virgin, Broxted near Stansted Airport on its ancient Celtic site replaced and incorporated parts of an earlier Saxon structure. The church was extensively restored in 1876, when the weather-boarded belfry was completely rebuilt. It contains a fine carved wood pulpit dating from the 17th century and the stained glass “Hostage” windows by John K Clark commemorate the five year ordeal of local journalist John McCarthy, Terry Waite and fellow Beirut hostages. We rely heavily on donations from our generous supporters, and regular gifts contribute to our work in this parish. An added bonus to us is the optional annual cost of living increase available by donating via PGS.

Sunday services are held approximately monthly, as the service rota is shared between the four churches of the parish.
