It has been wonderful to see the huge increase in the amount of money that has been raised for the Bishop’s Harvest Appeal in recent years and last year we donated over £23,000 to support primary schools and a women’s literacy programme in our link Diocese of Multan in Pakistan. I am writing now to encourage you to get involved in this year’s appeal which will support a range of projects in another of our link Dioceses, the Free State in South Africa.
It is widely believed that the link between Blackburn and the Free State is the oldest such link in the Anglican Communion. This year, for our Bishop’s Harvest Appeal, we are encouraging our parishes and schools to learn about the lives of Christians in the Free State and support a number of projects. Bishop Dintoe, Bishop of the Free State, has identified some priorities which our appeal can support. These are:
• Training and formation of vocation candidates and clergy;
• Developing ministry to boys and young men;
• Assisting the Mothers' Union and the Diocesan Gender Coordinator in Gender Based Violence workshops;
• Carrying out of environmental workshops in safeguarding the sanctity of the earth.
We are grateful for the support that has been provided to the Harvest Appeal in recent years and thankful for the generous giving of our parishes and schools.
